FAQs

What is UVTEC?
UVTEC is a clear liquid coating formulated in New Zealand for New Zealand's harsh UV conditions. It is applied to the inside of your windows to block the damaging UV Radiation.
What does it protect?
UVTEC provides UV protection for your home furnishing from fading and deterioration caused by UV radiation. Summary NIWA, June 18, 2002. UVTEC blocks up to 99% of damaging UV light within the 300/380nm range which is primarily responsible for fading and deterioration of furnishings.
Will UVTEC still allow the winter sun's warmth into my rooms?
Yes. The warmth from the sun is created by infa red rays. UVTEC only blocks out the damaging UV rays which are more intense in NZ than most other countries.
Will my view remain clear and undistorted?
Absolutely. UVTEC is crystal clear and will not affect your view. UVTEC actually increases glass clarity.
Is UVTEC easy to clean?
Yes. Simple easy-care instructions are included with a complimentary micro-fibre cleaning cloth.
Which windows in my house should I have UVTEC coated?
UVTEC is effective on any window but the most solar protection benefit will be gained from treating those windows which are most exposed to the sun; usually those facing north and west.
Does UVTEC have any harmful effects?
No. There will be a smell in the room after UVTEC has been applied but this dissipates quickly.
How long will UVTEC protection last?
UVTEC is warranted for 10 years under the terms of the warranty but it should last much longer.
Will UVTEC stop all of my fading?
Quote "It is UV radiation that is primarily responsible for the cause of fabric fading as a consequence of its high energy" Niwa June 18 2002.
Other factors such as heat and natural light are thought to have an effect, although there are no known tests to support this theory, particularly for New Zealand's extreme UV radiation conditions.
For further important detailed information see: A Pacific Energy Center Factsheet paragraph Windows and UV Reduction.
See also, paragraph 11.3 Fading Control from the Metroglasstech website.
Will UVTEC bubble, wrinkle, peel or have joins.
No UVTEC bonds with the surface of the glass and has no joins as it is applied as a liquid.
If I have window tinting, will I still need UV protection?
Possibly some types of window tinting transmit large amounts of damaging UV radiation thereby offering little sun protection value.
Will UVTEC invalidate double glazing warranty?
No, because UVTEC allows the heat to transmit through the coating and is crystal clear. It is considered that it will not void the applicable double glazing warranty because there is no build up of heat.
